(NEWS10) — Monroe police department report a house fire that occurred early Thursday morning on Highland Avenue. After extinguishing the fire, police explain Monroe Fire found three individuals dead inside the home.
The police were assisted at the scene by NY State Police, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Monroe Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Kiryas Joel EMS and Chavivim. However, because of the heavy fire, police officers were unable to get inside. House fires are always dangerous, but overnight blazes can be especially deadly. Ready.gov recommends that renters and homeowners replace smoke detector batteries every six months, and sleep with bedroom doors closed to slow the spread of flames.
Neighbors told police, who arrived at the scene first, that the residents might still be inside the house, but officers were unable to enter the building because of the heavy fire conditions. Local police detectives are working with Orange County fire investigators, the local medical examiner’s office and the Monroe Joint Fire District to determine the cause of the blaze.
